Action Suited Words

Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

“In nature’s infinite book of secrecy A little I can read.”

Antony and Cleopatra V,1; Soothsayer to Charmian

“We turned over many books together.”

The Merchant of Venice IV,1; Bellario, writing to recommend Balthasar to the Duke of Venice

Hamlet III,2: Hamlet giving advice to the Players

I can think of no better-suited “action” to launch 2026 than to announce next week’s publication of the Fifteenth Edition of the Nashville Bar Association’s Appellate Advocacy: A Handbook on Appellate Practice in Tennessee. It has been an honor to work on and update this publication from its inception. I hope it has been, and continues to be, a valuable resource for appellate practitioners and anyone interested in enriching their knowledge of the appellate process in Tennessee.

It has been a particular honor to work on this edition with my fellow editors on the NBA’s Appellate Practice Committee: William T. Owen, Jacob A. Vanzin, and Ellison Berryhill. Thank you so much for your hard work, intelligence, and professional skill.   And thanks to the many dozens of others who have worked on the Handbook through the first fourteen editions.

I am also honored to serve the Nashville Bar Association in its efforts to fortify our profession.

Please avail yourself of this free resource. We are confident it will provide you with practical guidance for handling appeals in Tennessee. The Fifteenth Edition will be available next week through the website of the Nashville Bar Association, under “Publications.”

Let’s have a great year, and, as I heard a wise man say:

Charge forth with great vigor!
