Amy Farrar

Amy Farrar is an associate with the law firm of Dodson, Parker Behm & Capparella, P.C. Farrar is a native of Raleigh, North Carolina and attended Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem. She graduated cum laude in 2000, with a B.A. in Politics and a minor in Sociology. After graduation, Farrar spent two years working as a lobbyist in Washington, DC. She represented a range of clients with various issues, including communications, energy and water, transportation, foreign affairs, education and environment. She also served as the Director of Grassroots Advocacy for a medical specialty society, educating over 115,000 members on communicating effectively with Capitol Hill.

Farrar graduated cum laude from the University of Mississippi School of Law in May of 2005. Farrar served as the Membership Director of the Mississippi Law Journal and participated as a member of the Moot Court Board. She also received the prestigious Hugh C. “Buzzy” Clayton Memorial Scholarship, which is given based on a combination of academic standing, character and community service.

Following law school Farrar served as law clerk to the Honorable Cornelia A. Clark of the Tennessee Supreme Court. As Justice Clark’s law clerk, Farrar was responsible for preparing the Justice for oral argument, researching and reporting various legal issues in conjunction with pending cases, and assisting with the drafting of opinions. Farrar’s clerkship with Justice Clark provided her with a valuable perspective of the law from the appellate bench.

Throughout her life, Farrar has developed an interest in assisting those who might otherwise be overlooked. This interest has led her to pursue various types of law, including civil rights and disabilities law, environmental law, and employment law. Farrar also works with business and commercial clients as both an advisor and a litigator. Farrar’s experience as law clerk for the Tennessee Supreme Court and her affinity for writing provide her with a solid background for all types of appellate advocacy. Ms. Farrar is counsel of record in over a dozen appeals, including the recent landmark decision Martin v. Norfolk Southern Ry. Co., 271 S.W.3d 76 (Tenn. 2008), setting a new summary judgment standard in Tennessee.

Farrar is a member of the American Bar Association, the Tennessee Bar Association, the Nashville Bar Association, the Lawyers Association for Women, the Tennessee Association for Justice and CABLE. She is currently serving as the Chair of the Nashville Bar Association’s Appellate Practice Committee and as the Chair of the Communications Committee for the Tennessee Association for Justice. She is assistant editor of the Tennessee Tort Law Letter, and serves as editor of The Tennessee Trial Lawyer magazine. Farrar is also a member of the Harry Phillips American Inn of Court.

She is married to attorney Jeff Farrar; they have one child.
